Resistance Band Exercises for Adults Over 60

A resistance band is a simple, affordable way to add strength work at home. Bands come in light tensions and let you train your upper body, lower body, and full body without heavy weights. They are easy to grip, easy to store, and gentle on your joints.

Easy to start

Bands are light, inexpensive, and simple to hold. You can use one seated or standing with support.

Adjustable resistance

Start with a light band and move to more tension only when the current one feels easy.

Full-body options

One band can work your back, shoulders, legs, and more, all from a sturdy chair or standing.

How to start

How to Start

Begin with a light band, sometimes labeled thin or low tension. The goal is to learn the movement with smooth control, not to pull as hard as you can. If a band feels too heavy, choose a lighter one or shorten your range of motion until it feels manageable.

Start with one or two exercises, two or three days per week. The seated row is a good first movement because it strengthens your back and posture while you stay seated. Add more only when the current work feels easy.

Safety note: Inspect your band for small tears before each use, and keep a firm grip so it does not slip. Move with control and avoid snapping the band back quickly. If you have a recent surgery, a joint replacement, or ongoing pain, talk with an appropriate healthcare or rehabilitation professional before starting.
